Butterfly effect

What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly.

Richard Bach

For thousands of years, the butterfly has been a symbol of transformation, rebirth, hope, and faith.

What does the butterfly have to do with business?

Everything. The butterfly effect in business is that small initial actions can lead to much greater rewards in the future. One small decision or change in your strategy may cause a positive ripple effect that impacts your business greatly.

For example, your front desk, sales staff treat customers in a warm, friendly way. Those customers turn into Raving Fans and spread the word about your business.

On the other hand, a Raving fan can turn into an unhappy customer when they are treated poorly. Those former Raving Fans can ruin the reputation of your business.

Imagine the power of the accumulation of all these missteps and inaction on behalf of your Raving Fans. These actions cause your business reputation to be tarnished. These disruptions in your business can lead to loss of revenue, negative reviews and could lead to the success or failure of your business.

It is a must, not a should, that business owners apply the butterfly effect to every management decision. Nurturing your Raving Fans and every business relationship, doing more for others than anyone else, this kind of attitude will return to you tenfold.

Here are some tips to help your business survive and thrive:

*Stay well informed in all aspects of your business.

*Observe and catch situations that need attention (kill the monster when it’s small) before it becomes a reputation nightmare.

*Observe how your managers treat team members.

*Take the pulse of your customers with surveys, birthday cards, and gift certificates to show them you care.

*Show your team that they are Number One. Treat them like they are the most important people in your company and that you care about their well-being.

When your team members are treated fairly, they will stay longer. The advantages to having a strong, motivated, trustworthy team will bring many advantages to your company.

The Butterfly effect in action is when you are able to achieve your long-term goals as well as your team members aligning themselves with your mission.
